DAY
01 KOTA KINABALU
Arrival
into Kota Kinabalu and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon
we proceed on a city tour of Kinabula, where we visit the
highest point for a panoramic view of Kota Kinabalu. We will also
see Likas Bay, the Sabah Foundation building (exterior), Kinabula
Buddhist Temple, the State Museum, State Mosque (exterior) and the
water village (photostop only). Overnight accommodation.
DAY
02 KOTA KINABALU (MON)
American
Breakfast. Depart for a full day excursion to Kinabalu
National Park, the base of the highest mountain in Southeast
Asia. Kinabalu is a botanist's paradise with over a thousand species
of orchids, numerous Rhododendrons and carnivorous pitcher
plants as well as a large species of birds. Our park guide
will take you on a nature walk this morning and you will
also visit the exhibition hall and watch a slide presentation on
Kinabalu National Park and Mount Kinabalu. Overnight. Meals: Breakfast/Lunch.
DAY
03 KOTA KINABALU - MULU
After
breakfast we transfer to the airport for your flight to Mulu on
D72174 @ 1050/1140 hours. Arrive at Mulu National Park -
the home to the largest cave passage in the world and a paradise
for naturalists. Mulu Park is known to have 1500 species of wild
orchids and 67 species of animals (sighting of animals are not guaranteed).
After
a quick lunch at the canteen, we start our journey to Lang's
Cave and Deer Cave. This interesting walk on a raised
platform goes through peat swamp forest. We will also explore the
Garden of Eden. Our journey back will be through Deer Cave. However,
we will rest until evening, and if weather permits, see a strange
but natural phenomenon at the mouth of the cave. Overnight. Meals
: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
DAY
04 MULU-MIRI
American
Breakfast. We will continue with our exploration of Mulu caves and
this morning proceed by boat to Clearwater Cave. You
may swim at the Clearwater spring, where you will also have
lunch. After lunch, we will explore the Cave of the Winds, and then
to a Penan tribe longhouse at Batu Bungan. Return to Mulu and proceed
to the airport. Fly to Miri on D72235 @ 1530/1555 hours. Transfer
to your hotel. Overnight. Meals: Breakfast/Lunch
DAY
05 MIRI-KUCHING
After
breakfast, transfer to airport for flight MH2801 0840/0940 hours
to Kuching. Transfer to your hotel. Proceed on a city tour of
Kuching in the afternoon. Highlights on this tour are view of
Fort Margherita from the waterfront, across the Sarawak River
(no public admission), Tua Pek Kong Temple - the oldest Chinese
temple in Kuching and the Sarawak Museum, reputed to be the
best museum in Southeast Asia. Overnight Accommodation.
DAY
06 KUCHING - SEMENGGOK ORANG UTAN-LONGHOUSE
Breakfast
in the hotel. Early morning depart to visit the Semonggok Orang
Utan Rehabilitation Centre that houses the Orang Utan, honey
bears and other protected species of wildlife, rescued from captivity.
These wildlife are then carefully nutured and rehabilitated into
their natural surroundings. Witness the feeding of the Orang Utans
subject to the animals approaching the feeding platform.
Depart
for an overnight stay at a guest house located beside an Iban longhouse.
On arrival, the natives of the Iban tribe in the longhouse will
welcome you. Ibans make up the largest group of natives in Sarawak
and were once considered the head-hunters of Borneo. Today,
they are farmers and amongst the friendliest people. You are free
to mingle with the longhouse dwellers and even try your hand with
their daily chores or enjoy the serenity of the rainforest or go
for a swim in the river.
After
dinner, meet the Headman of the longhouse and be entertained
by traditional dances. Try the rice wine and participate
in the graceful Warrior's Dance, the Ngajat. Overnight in
a guesthouse (consist of individual beds with mosquito netting for
each bed. There are proper shower and toilet facility). (Meals:
Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
DAY
07 IBAN LONGHOUSE-KCH
Wake
up to the crows of the roosters. After breakfast, we will see a
demonstration of the various pastime games played by the natives
such as cock-fighting and blow-pipe competitions. Departure
to Kuching. Lunch en route. Proceed to Kuching airport or to the
beach resorts in the Damai Peninsular. All outbound flights to be
after 1600 hours. Lunch en route. Proceed to Kuching airport or
to the beach resorts in the Damai Peninsular to relax or visit the
interesting Bako National Park which contains almost every type
of vegetation found in Borneo. All outbound flights to be after
1600 hours.
