(B)
This
morning we tour Hanoi's charming French colonial boulevards,
visit the ancient Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh's
mausoleum, and his family home and museum to learn more about
his amazing life. Next we have a choice of visiting the Museum
of fine arts or the Hoa Lo Prison museum (better
known as Hanoi Hilton). In the afternoon we take a tour around
Hanoi by cyclo, driving through the lively Old
Quarter, which is a series of 36 ancient streets where peddlers
trade their wares the way they have done for centuries. We visit
a historic house in Ma May street that's typical of dwellings in
the Old Town and then walk through Hang Be market to the famed water
puppet theater for an evening show. Overnight in Hanoi
Day
3: Hanoi-Halong (B, L, D)
After breakfast we journey east to Vietnam's greatest natural wonder,
Halong Bay. We board our beautiful traditional wooden
junk and spend a full day and night cruising the bay's 3000
magnificent limestone islets. In the evening when the boat is anchored
in the middle of the stunning lagoon, we enjoy a wonderful seafood
meal and later there is opportunity for an evening swim from
the side of the boat. Kayaks are also available if specified
at time of booking. Overnight on luxurious boat.
Day
4: Halong - Hanoi - Saigon (Brunch)
Wake up to fresh coffee and take a small boat to a nearby sandy
cove beach for an opportunity to relax and have a morning
swim. For a great photo opportunity it is well worth walking
up to the hill top pagoda which overlooks the entire Halong bay.
Afterwards we return for a wholesome breakfast before cruising back
to Halong City. En route the junk weaves through strange-shaped
rock formations that invite comparisons from fighting cocks to mystical
dragons!
Disembark
and transfer back to Hanoi with a stop at the 500 year old Bat
Trang Pottery Village. The village is famous for producing the
best pottery in Vietnam and art produced here is shipped all over
the world. We'll walk down the narrow roads to the family workshop
where we have a chance to meet the reputed artist Le Minh Ngoc,
who received many honorable awards for his works and see the art
he produces in unfinished stages and the final products. Then we
will explore the village further and have a class on throwing
a pot on a potter's wheel which we will be able to take home
as a souvenir. Last we will head to the market at the front of the
village to see all of the different beautiful ceramics that the
village produces. Overnight in Hanoi.
